Developer statement
Gorescript is a first-person shooter built in the vein of early '90s shooters. You blaze through maze-like levels wielding a double-barreled shotgun, looking for color coded keys and mowing down everything that moves.

Building Gorescript was quite an amazing experience because it basically meant picking apart Doom to see how it ticks and then recreating that feeling from scratch.
Gameplay-wise, Gorescript is meant to be as faithful as possible to Doom, ranging from the 2.5D levels (in the sense that there can never be one room above another) to the raw agility it requires to play effectively, especially on the higher difficulty modes. There's no cover system here, you have to move quick and dance around the enemy projectiles to survive.

I recommend the game to all the FPS players who are not afraid of braving high difficulty levels and want to push their skills to the max.

Press
  • RockPaperShotgun: "Gorescript is a very fun, messy FPS"
  • TechRaptor: "Gorescript achieves a lot in a small package"
  • The Overpowered Noobs: "While intrinsically referential, Gorescript has a lot going for it on its own"
  • A 90s Kid: "Gorescript [...] takes everything that made the old-school Doom and Quake games so great without coming across as a ‘clone’ of these games."
Sales
Sales data are confidential according to the Steam NDA, however we can say the game was well received by the press and we have quite a community of players and youtubers who play the game (Gorescript or Gorescript Classic, the Chrome web store predecessor).
Gameplay
Gorescript is a classic FPS and some people, including us, would swear by that. However, within the game, the developer sneaked some game elements that might change a bit your perspective.

Gorescript brings several platforming elements into this mix, you can perform jump kills on monsters much like in the Mario games, some of the levels are designed as a puzzle platformer and we even bring back to life a quirk of the 90's FPS, strafe running and employ it as platforming mechanic. Also for the fans of truly hardcore gaming we introduced the "Blackout Mode" bringing a survival horror flavour to the game and also the "Permadeath Mode" for players who take their roguelikes seriously.

Gorescript is a classic FPS and some people, including us, would swear by that.
We published a 3 staged alpha demo for the pre-launch period. The demo is now available on Steam as well.
